IDC PROGRAM AT THE AKUMAL DIVE SHOP - YEAR 2006

The Instructor Development Course (IDC) represents the most important part of the instructor program. It stresses a lot the importance of a complete development of the future instructor skills. You will learn the PADI system in confined water, open water and in the classroom. The IDC courses can be held in English, Spanish, Italian and French.

The IDC course is structured to last 11-12 days. 1 or 2 days before the beginning of the IDC program, we will meet and work on the Dive Master Theory Exams and the 20 Open Water skills of the Dive Master course. These 2 days are mandatory for all candidates and are included in the price of the IDC.

The IDC cost is 1200usd per person. The IDC material cost is not included. We may order the material for you and you can get it in time to do the requested independent study.

Candidates have to pay apart the PADI IE fee and application fee, respectively 440usd and 100usd (prices as for 2004).

Candidates should have:

  1. Proof of PADI Open Water, Advanced, Rescue and Divemaster certifications or qualifying certification from another training organization
  2. Certified Open Water Diver for at least 6 months.
  3. Minimum age: 18 years.
  4. First Aid and CPR training within the last 24 months (PADI Emergency First Responder certification recommended) and valid for all the IDC and IE period.
  5. PADI Diving Medical Statement signed by a physician and dated within the last 12 months and valid for all the IDC and IE period.
  6. Proof of at least 60 logged open water scuba dives.
  7. Logged proof of deep, night & navigation diving.
  8. Completion of all IDC Independent Learning Knowledge Reviews from the IDC Candidate Work Book.

Candidates who need to renew their EFR certification will need to assist the EFR course, which can be provided just before starting the IDC classes (EFR 150usd - not at instructor level). Candidates who are not PADI divemasters are also required to pass the diver rescue skills assessment.

Completion Requirement: Since proof of 100 logged dives is required to take the PADI IE, candidates are requested to get to the IDC with at least 100 logged dives. Since candidates should show proof of the 100 dives please remember to take to the IDC course the diving log books.

2006 scheduled IDCs:

* January 15 – 26 with IE starting on January 26 in Cancun;
* March 14 – 23 with IE starting on March 24 in Playa del Carmen;
* May 29 – June 8 with IE starting on June 9 in Playa del Carmen;
* August 12 – 24 with IE starting on August 25 in Cancun;
* November 13 – 23 with IE starting on November 24 in Playa del Carmen.
